Thriving in the workplace

A partnership with Charlie Waller Workplace can help businesses develop a consistent approach to mental health and wellbeing. At FRP Advisory, it has helped provide the foundations for FRP Thrive – their firm-wide wellbeing programme.

FRP provides businesses with strategic advice at all stages of the corporate lifecycle.  Associate Director Tracy Baker explains why FRP decided to work with Charlie Waller Workplace: “We wanted to reduce stigma around mental health and wellbeing, and to encourage earlier and more open conversations. Our aim was to give leaders and managers greater confidence in recognising when someone may be struggling, responding appropriately and signposting support.

“We chose Charlie Waller Workplace because of its evidence-based expertise and practical approach.”

Head of Charlie Waller Workplace (CWW) Programmes Abigail Hirshman met with the FRP team regularly to understand the business. Alongside other expert trainers from CWW, Abigail delivered three specific courses for partners, managers and employees: Leading for Good Mental Health, Managing for Good Mental Health and Learning for Good Mental Health.

Support beyond training

“The support went beyond the delivery of the training,” says Tracy. “It combined evidence-based content, practical tools, regular personal contact and meaningful measurement.

“Abigail acted as a genuine partner who really cared about our people, ensuring the programme remained relevant to our organisation and ambitions.”

Charlie Waller Workplace also provided tools to measure FRP’s position at the start and at the end of their work together. “This enabled us to understand our progress, evidence the impact of the work and identify priorities for continued development,” says Tracy.

“One of the things we’re most proud of is that the work didn’t end when the training and consultancy programme finished. It opened up a wider conversation and reinforced the importance of sustained leadership support, employee involvement and regular attention to wellbeing.”

FRP Thrive

A significant outcome was the development of FRP Thrive. Tracey says: “We recognised that mental wellbeing can’t be considered in isolation and is closely connected to other essential aspects of people’s lives.”

The FRP Thrive framework brings together mental, physical, environmental, social and financial wellbeing, and that shapes all the firm’s wellbeing initiatives, communications and resources. A network of internal volunteers raise awareness, share resources, encourage participation and keep wellbeing visible across the firm.

Wellbeing award

FRP was named among the Top 50 Inspiring Workplaces in the UK and Ireland 2026 and was particularly proud to receive special recognition in the wellbeing category. Tracy believes Charlie Waller Workplace played a key role in that. She says: “While it reflects the collective efforts of many colleagues, the foundations, capability and momentum developed through our partnership with Charlie Waller Workplace undoubtedly contributed to our continuing journey.”

What would Tracy say to other organisations considering working with Charlie Waller Workplace? “We would strongly recommend them,” she says. “Most importantly, the partnership prompted long-term change. It helped us think more strategically and holistically about wellbeing and gave us the confidence and foundations to develop an approach that continues to benefit our people.”
